Solar makes EV battery support for the grid complicated financially

Findings from a German vehicle-to-grid programme, run by Lichtblick, SMA, Volkswagen and Fraunhofer IWES, suggests electric vehicle owners can earn up to €500 a year, but the downside is that the battery is worn down in the process – quite considerably. read more: http://reneweconomy.com.au/2016/solar-makes-ev-battery-support-grid-complicated-financially-

Aluminium battery from Stanford offers Fast Charge and Low Cost

Stanford University scientists have invented the first high-performance aluminium battery that's fast-charging, long-lasting and inexpensive. Researchers say the new technology offers a safe alternative to many commercial batteries in wide use today. "We have developed a rechargeable aluminium battery that may replace existing storage devices, such as alkaline batteries, which are bad for the environment, and lithium-ion batteries, which occasionally burst into flames," said Hongjie Dai, a professor of chemistry at Stanford. "Our... [Lire la suite]

‘Batteries are just a ticket to the ball game’ - an interview with Greensmith

Battery modules as represented in Greensmith's energy storage modelling and design software. Image: Greensmith. According to GTM Research, the US deployed just over 60MW of energy storage in 2014, mostly at grid scale. One firm, Greensmith, which produces software control platforms for storage as well as delivering turnkey systems for customers including large power producers and utilities, claims that having worked on 23MW of projects last year, the company was involved in the installation of around one-third of the total... Energy Storage for the Grid is expected to reach $15.6 Billion in annual Revenue by 2024

“The grid-scale energy storage market continues to develop in a piecemeal fashion, but there are signals that it is poised for significant expansion in the coming years,” says Anissa Dehamna, senior research analyst with Navigant Research.  “In particular, after several years of faltering growth, lithium ion batteries are emerging as the breakout technology in this sector.” Still, the market challenges are significant for energy storage to be deployed widely on the grid.  The industry needs more systems integrators and...
