Recycling EV Batteries More Cost-Competitive Than Using For Home Energy Storage - Lux Research Echoes Tesla CTO JB Straubel

It makes more sense from an economic standpoint to recycle old plug-in electric vehicle batteries than to reuse them directly for home energy storage, according to a new report from Lux Research. The primary reason? According to Lux Research, reused plug-in electric vehicle batteries will “deliver questionable returns on account of reduced performance, limiting them to application with less frequent and shallower depth of discharge cycles.” This echoes what Tesla CTO JB Straubel said earlier this year. Tesla has said repeatedly... [Lire la suite]

Europe Electric Car Sales — BMW Slides Into #1 YTD

Europe Electric Car Leaders (Top 30 – October 2016) Top 30 electric cars (in terms of sales) across most of Europe, with data aggregated by Jose Pontes for CleanTechnica.com, EVObsession.com, and EV-Sales.blogspot.com. The European electric car market had more than 17,000 registrations last month, 1% down compared to October 2015. This sales slip surely has to do with the incentives-derived sales rush in the last quarter of 2015, so expect this trend to continue throughout the end of this year. Tesla Model S battery pack data shows very little capacity loss over high mileage

‘Lithium’ battery capacity degradation is one of the main concerns of electric vehicle buyers and potential buyers. Since the resurgence of electric cars is relatively recent, meaningful long-term data on large battery packs is fairly rare. Only Tesla has battery packs with a capacity higher than 30 kWh on the road in any significant number and they only have been in operation for a few years (Roadster aside). But a few Tesla owners have accumulated impressive mileage on their vehicles and the data provides an interesting... [Lire la suite]
